UNTO OTHERS: An Old Adage. A New Style.

The Rule is still golden

The golden rule long ago set the standard on how we should treat people in society. No matter your motivation, whether it be to avoid bad karma or to keep the rule of reciprocity going, doing unto others has been the underpinning philosophy for most, if not all of our social interactions.

So, what does it mean to live according to doing good to others?

Should our motivation for doing good come from getting something in return? Or a fear of having bad luck or even something owed/entitlement?  Rather, it should come from a desire to create a culture of love, justice and community in a world that too often seeks to deprive “the other” of the most basic of human rights and privileges. No matter what we think, we have the right to love and be loved, so doing unto others demands the promotion of charity, and this is represented in all that we do; even in what we wear.

"Among these is a city that has been home to community empowerment and social engagement for decades."

At GoodBoy, we’ve made it our aim to make clothing that tells the story of the greater culture since fashion has always been a reflection of real, tangible and lasting lifestyle. We don’t make clothing that makes a statement. Making a statement is about commercializing and trivializing noble things for profit. Instead, telling the story of the culture is about spreading the message of meaning, and we want to spread this message far and wide; any way we can. This is the spirit behind our latest line.

Unto Others will display an art craftsmanship in fashion that has been lacking for far too long in today’s trends. Box stores that try to create the latest fad from a boardroom in a high-rise is too far removed from the heartbeat of the city: the footsteps that beat the pavement during the daily grind of the common person.

"We don’t make clothing that makes a statement. Making a statement is about commercializing and trivializing noble things for profit."

This line of clothing is an organic social movement that represents the culture from where it’s born. Flint, Michigan is the original home to so many great things and has its social issues like the rest of the world. However, we wanted to highlight the solution-oriented individuals who create the unto others culture in the everyday life.  Among these is a city that has been home to community empowerment and social engagement for decades. We will continue this legacy and in doing so, we’ll see an old adage bring forth a new life and style.

"We don't take from society.  We take from ourselves to give back to society."

The distressed style and Gothic influence compliment the era and spirit of the philosophy. Inspired by timeless art, these contemporary wears don’t conform to the status quo. The Good Creative team have applied time-worn tradition to contemporary clothing, letting the art and adage speak of yesterday while the long scoop tees, mineral washed tees, stonewashed denim hats and a bandana speak to today.  Together, they will tell the story of tomorrow.
